      <image:title>Residential - Island Family Camp - Casco Bay, ME</image:title>
<image:caption>This family camp is inspired by the vernacular gable form common on the islands of Maine. The series of buildings placed along a stone pathway with a metal roof create a village suitable for a family. As you walk along the pathway you are given many opportunities to engage with the beautiful surroundings. The 5 buildings are: garage, kid’s bedroom suites, main living area, library, and primary suite. The two buildings to the east of the spine frame the water view while creating an outdoor living space for enjoying the Maine summers. These buildings are simple in form to address the harsh environment and to make the off-island construction and placement simple. Once you’ve passed through the buildings you start to drop back into the landscape and are invited to continue out to the dock, where you have a view out and over the water to the many other islands. <image:caption>An extensive remodel of an Historic industrial building in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood, this project leverages natural ventilation through a perforated zinc facade to keep energy loads low, while sourcing nearly all of its electricity from a 30kW photovoltaic array on the roof. The resulting building was named one of the Top Ten Green Project’s of 2010, and was the inaugural winner of the Top Ten Plus Award in 2013 by the American Institute of Architects' Committee on the Environment. The project was the recipient of the ZeroFootprint Re-Skinning award in 2010, and was presented at the World Urban Forum 5 in Rio de Janeiro as a prototype for the sustainable reuse of urban industrial structures worldwide. The project was awarded LEED-NC Gold certification from the USGBC in 2009. Firm: Aidlin Darling Design | Role: Shane Curnyn, Project Architect Photos: Richard Barnes, Matthew Millman</image:caption>
