JUNIPER architecture is a small, hands-on design studio focusing on residential, retail, and restaurant projects where good design is integral to the project's success. We began as a design/build collaboration with one of San Francisco's most respected residential builders. As an independent design studio, Juniper operates with the same hands-on ethos that led us to seek a path within architecture that is closer to making.

The majority of our projects are in San Francisco, however we take on projects across the Bay Area and beyond. We're always happy to answer questions about design and building - please feel free to drop us a line.

Prior to Juniper Architecture, Shane worked on several award-winning projects at Aidlin Darling Design, including Matarozzi Pelsinger Builder's new headquarters building and its ground floor restaurant, Bar Agricole. Prior to this, Shane was a Design Associate at the San Francisco office of Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill, where he worked on several large-scale projects in the US and abroad.

Shane has a Bachelor’s in Architecture from Yale and a Master’s of Architecture from Harvard.

Shane lives at Ocean Beach in San Francisco with his wife, daughter, and two dogs.

Josh Lowe, Principal

Josh is a licensed architect in the state of California.

Prior to Juniper Architecture, he worked at Matarozzi Pelsinger Builders as a key member of the Design + Build Department. This experience of designing a project AND managing the construction was an education equal to that of any schooling. An education in the value of clear communication, the value of good people skilled at their trade, and the value of great design.

Josh also worked at 450 Architects and BCV Architects both here in San Francisco. He was fortunate to be on the design team for the Ferry Building Market Place, Oxbow Market, Cakebread Cellars, S.F. Waldorf High School, Yuba River Charter School, and Mission Cheese.

Before entering architecture, Josh worked as a builder in a small beach town in his native Delaware. He received his Bachelors of Architecture degree from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. The highlights of his collegiate experience were receiving Thesis Commendation and studying abroad in both Rome and Prague.  In 2011, Josh completed a design residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts in Marin. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and a Certified PassivHaus Consultant.

When not designing, Josh is spending time with his wife & daughter or surfing.
